The LLAMA tests: FAQs

This page contains answers to queries that people send us about the LLAMA language aptitude tests.

When will version 3 of the LLAMA tests be ready for use?

A beta version of the four LLAMA tests are currently available. Comments are welcome. The definitive version will go live at the end of May 2020.

Will the version 3 tests record data so that we can do item analyses on the tests?

Yes.

How can I access the data collected by the LLAMA tests?

LLAMA saves the data it collects using the format XXXXX,yy where XXXXX is the test-taker's id code, and yy is the score they achieved.
If you forget to record the scores as they are generated by test-takers, you can send a request to lognostics. You'll need to keep a record of the test-takers' id codes to do this.
It's a good idea to use codes that provide a clue that easily identifies your subjects. e.g. If you work at the University of Lundy Island, then id codes that start off with ULI would make it easier for us to answer a request to retrieve data.

Can I use the LLAMA tests with young children

The tests were designed to be used with adults. They probably work with young adolescents, but they won't work with younger children.

Are the LLAMA tests really L1-independent?

We don't know. This would make a good PhD project. See the Research Notes page.

How should I cite the LLAMA tests when I use them?

Please cite the tests as:
PM Meara and VE Rogers The LLAMA Tests v3. Test Name Cardiff: Lognostics. 2020.
e.g. PM Meara and VE Rogers The LLAMA Tests v3. LLAMA_D Cardiff: Lognostics. 2020.

Where can I find research that uses the LLAMA tests?

Check out the Research Notes pages.
